Another piece from 1995. While on a visit to my hometown area of Northeastern Minnesota I encountered a pack of Timber Wolves for the first time in my life. I had heard lone wolves or packs before but never had seen a whole pack in the open. They were crossing in single file across a railroad bridge. The leader (Alpha male) stopped for a moment and looked at me then continued on his way followed by the pack. When I returned to Bismarck, ND (my home then and now), I obsessed about the scene. I sketched it and painted it - only changed the scene slightly. I put the pack in a more natural setting - a forest seemed more appropriate than a railroad bridge.
